Traveling in Japan

Due to Japan's position between several distinct climatic zones, each season brings significant shifts in both temperature and humidity. While such changes are not unique to Japan, it is worth noting that a great many of Japan's festivals and traditions are centred around specific seasonal conditions.
The annual blooming of sakura (cherry blossoms) in spring is widely celebrated with hanami (flower-viewing) events, while the summertime sees numerous matsuri festivals and dramatic firework displays. The largest of these is Obon, which occurs in August.
Autumn transforms the landscape into a sprawl of fiery yellows, oranges and reds, and people travel from all over the country to visit spots of particular autumnal beauty. Mt.Fuji is an obvious choice, though the clear skies of winter also provide some breathtaking views of this stunning national landmark.
